Do you know the true value of milk in a kid’s diet? Sadly, more than 22 million children may miss out on nutrition from milk this summer. Most children get milk from school, but when school is out for the summer, they have no place to get milk. When it comes to getting milk from a food bank, most food banks don’t or can’t offer it. Although it’s one of the most requested, it is one of the least donated items.
Milk does the body good
I’m currently 8.5 months pregnant and one of my biggest cravings this pregnancy has definitely been a nice, big glass of cold milk. I’ve been drinking milk for my entire pregnancy and I love that it’s giving nutrition to my baby boy growing inside of me plus has plenty of benefits. Since drinking milk I have been able to control my low blood sugar and my dizziness; not to mention it’s just absolutely so refreshing.
All 3 of my children love drinking milk and we make sure they get a glass in the morning with their breakfast as well as a generous amount right before bed. I believe in the nutritional value of milk for my children and it’s always going to be my #1 beverage choice for our household. Do your kids love milk just as much as mine do?
Maybe you don’t know that 46 million Americans – including 12 million children – get support from Feeding America® network food banks each year. Most food banks can only offer around one gallon of milk per family per year. Kind of sad, isn’t it?
Milk’s Nutrition per 8-ounce serving
You may be wondering why milk plays such an important role in a child’s life. Milk is a complete protein, which means that every glass contains a full mix of the essential amino acids our bodies need. Kids need protein every single day! Milk is a wholesome option for families and it’s important that kids reap the benefits as often as possible.
Make a Donation
Although many of us take for granted how awesome a glass of milk tastes, there are children who literally don’t have access to it. You can make a small donation in your community this summer at milklife.com/give.
A donation as little as $5 can deliver a highly desired and nutrient-rich gallon of fresh milk to children who need it most. Deliver a gallon of nutrient-rich milk and help to ensure that all children have the potential to play, learn and grow.
The Great American Milk Drive
The Great American Milk Drive, a collaborative effort between Feeding America, America’s dairy farmers and milk companies, turns online donations into gallons of milk for families in local communities. To date, the program has provided more than 12 million servings of milk to families across the country.
For each share of Great American Milk Drive “Feed A Childhood” content with hashtag #milkdrive via Facebook and Twitter between 6/1/16 – 6/30/16, The Great American Milk Drive will contribute $1 to the Feeding America® network for the purchase of fluid milk, up to a maximum total donation of $5,000.
