Protect your children with online safety

I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Boys & Girls Clubs of America.  I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

When I was growing up internet safety wasn’t a concern.  I was able to browse the internet (dial up at the time) to do research for schooling and response to emails to chat with friends and family that didn’t live close by.  I didn’t need to be monitored on the computer because back than there weren’t any social media platforms like there are now.  Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest didn’t exist back than so computers were used by kids solely for homework and gaming.

My kids are not allowed to have social media profiles and they only can access the computers while my husband or I are present.  We keep our children safe by monitoring their usage because you never know who is lurking on the other side of a computer monitor.  Kids can easily be persuaded by a stranger on the computer acting like a younger student who may or may not go to their school.  The month of June is Internet Safety Awareness Month and Boys and Girls Club is helping to keep your children safe.

Throughout the month of  June Boys and Girls Club and Sprint have teamed up to help parents answer their questions about cyber bullying, social networking, online privacy, mobile smarts and other cyber-related issues.  The Boys and Girls club is committed to helping your kids stay safe online and they are a group of teens across that United States that are very knowledgeable.  If all of us work together we can protect our children as well as many generations to come from internet chaos.

What are you doing as a parent or a care taker of children to keep your children safe while online?  The internet is a scary world and we need to be sure we’re watching our children very carefully.  Back in the day you had to worry about the safety of children in public but now a days with so many social media channels you now have to be concerned about their safety online as well.  The boys and girls club is doing an amazing job and I’d love for you to ask a few questions to get the right answers now.  While on the site you can ask questions, take quizzes and read powerful resources.  For every question to submit you’ll be entered to win 1 of 3 iPad minis and $500 to your BGCA club of choice.
