Christmas Deer Glass Block Silhouette Tutorial

December 16, 2014 by Brittany 1 Comment

The month of December is all about Holiday cheer and spending time with loved ones. Since I received my Silhouette cutting machine this year I’ve been making so many hand made gifts and I couldn’t be happier with the results and for once i wanted to make something gorgeous for my home. I transformed one of my favorite deer and birch tree files to a gorgeous vinyl Glass Block, add in lights and you have a gorgeous nightlight for your home. This looks fantastic in all parts of my home and best of all it was so easy to make! I really hope you enjoy this tutorial.

Supplies Needed:

Arts Mind Glass Block (Purchased mine at Michael’s)

Silhouette Cutting Machine

Brown Vinyl

Transfer Tape

Battery Operated Lights (optional)

Tutorial:

This project was so easy to do I wish I would of done it sooner and now everyone on my Holiday gift list is getting their own personal glass block night light. First head over to the Silhouette online store and grab the Birch tree with deer file for just $0.99. This is one of those files that is so versatile you can make mugs, cutting boards, glass blocks, shadow frames and lots more! The options are endless with this beautiful, simplistic design. Once you have purchased the file upload it into your Silhouette Designer software and resize it to 5.45″ x 5.45″ so it will fit perfectly over the front of the glass block. (Tip: I recommend grabbing a glass block with a plug so you can add in your own lights and/or snow to give it a personal feel.)

Once you are happy with your design pick your choice of Vinyl color and load it on your cutting mat. Head over to cut settings and select vinyl as your cutting material and set your blade to a 2. Feed the mat and vinyl into your machine and start the cutting process. Once the cut is complete remove from the mat and weed out the excess vinyl. This was such an easy design to weed out and literally took seconds which I truly appreciate. Once it’s weeded apply your clear transfer tape and apply to your glass block. That’s it you have a crisp glass block that is perfect for year round use. We are displaying ours in our entry way and it looks gorgeous with the battery operated lights I placed in it.
