Working from home as a blogger is both an easy and a hard way to earn money from home. Unlike other work at home jobs, working as a blogger (and actually earning from it) does take some very hard work. If you have a topic you’re passionate about though, it can be very rewarding. Learning how to work from home blogging isn’t as hard as it may seem though.
To start, you’ll need a blog of course. In order to have a successful blog you’ll need a server such as Bluehost as well as Blogger.com or WordPress.org. Blogger is free, but you won’t have control of your server or root files and WordPress.org will require that you have a domain name (around $8) and host (cost varies per month).
Be creative when coming up with your domain name and URL. When I first started blogging 6 years ago I made a name that I regretted and have since re-branded my blog to a new name and niche. It’s so important to have a catchy Domain name people will remember and that doesn’t sound to close to another blogger.
Once you have decided to use WordPress it’s time to pick a design for the blog. I love clean, white and crisp blogs that are easy to navigate and easy on the eyes. There are many amazing Blog designs that can be found on Restored 316 Designs. In order to be taken serious as a blogger and make real money your site needs needs to look professional and be easy to navigate.
Once you have your blog set up, start writing! You’ll need awesome content to draw in readers! Make sure that you have at least a couple of weeks’ worth of content built up before you launch. For traffic, you’ll need to optimize your posts for SEO as well as promote them via any social media networks that you choose to have for your blog.
Once your blog is set up, you’re ready to go! Earning from a blog can be done in many ways! It’s up to you to decide how you prefer to get paid. Take a look at the options below:
Ad Units – Ad units through companies like Google Adsense or Svorn are great for passive income. Put a couple of them on your site and once your traffic increases, you’ll be earning a paycheck.
Selling ad space – Companies will sometimes pay you to put an ad on your site. This can be a great way to boost your blog earnings.
Sponsored posts – Along with ad space, companies will sometimes pay you to blog about them. Be sure your rates are fair to both you and the company, that you always stay honest with your posts and that you never endorse a company or product that you’re not entirely sure of.
Affiliate Marketing – Becoming an affiliate for a site like Amazon.com or Walmart.com can bring in a steady revenue stream for most bloggers. Don’t’ be too spammy with the number of links you put in your posts and only link to products you truly believe in.
Selling your own product – Whether you choose to write a book or sell printables, crafts or some other product on your site, adding a blog store can be a quick and easy way to earn a few extra dollars.
Blogging isn’t the easiest way to earn extra income, but once you get the ball rolling, it can be very lucrative. With hard work and a little time, you can replace your full time income and become a full time work at home blogger.
